Starting Over

What a week! Last Thursday my computer was acting crazier than normal. By Monday my hard-drive had failed and everything was black. I really didn't realize how much software, programs and websites I use everyday to keep my business running, until I had to start over again. This afternoon I finally got Photoshop to load, and of course the first photographs I checked to make sure they were safe were from Paris..... hazy, and playfully pastel, they suit my mood. Next week will be much better.

Senior Portrait - Miss K.

I have to admit I was nervous scheduling an outdoor senior portrait session so late into the fall. Michigan weather can be unpredictable at best. But, as you can see there was nothing to worry about. The sunshine was lovely and dappled, with a glow that only comes very late in the year. And my model was stunning! Miss K. grew up in the city and I gave her the option of a more urban shoot. But, I am glad she chose this location instead. It really shows her beautiful, warm personality. Cheers to your upcoming graduation, Miss K. I can't wait to see where you end up next!

Overnight it turned into winter. And before breakfast, or even coffee, we were outside. There were snow angels made and shoveling done. Mostly, a lot of just walking around the yard talking about how magical it all looked.

These are my gifts. The antlers came from my husbands' family, and the crystals were from mine. My parents went crystal mining a couple years back in Arkansas. (Doesn't that sound like fun!) In the moment that it was decided the rain had passed and the party was moving out (of the barn), everyone jumped into action. Tables were numbered and taken outside, dished glasses and all... you could tell they had done this before. In minutes everyone was back at their seats, bits of sun started breaking through the clouds, and a beautiful meal was had by all.

A night of farm to table dining at its best happen this summer in Chelsea, Michigan. And, I was thrilled to be able to photograph the event for Outstanding in the Field. We arrived in between rainstorms which gave us plenty of time to explore the gorgeous farm, and chat with the goats and chickens. Because of the rain, the trademark tables were first set up in the barn, but the staff never lost hope that the rain would clear and they would be able to move the dinner back outside. And guess what... It did clear up, and they did move 200 people and their meals outside. And, it looked just as lovely as I thought it would.

Last May, we wrote down all our goals, hopes and dreams for the summer...
We have been checking them off, one by one. Some we have realized will just have to be saved for another year. Today N.J. mentioned that "build a reading tent" had not been accomplished. And, we set to work right away. It is a simpler tent than in my May daydreams. But, seemed to make everyone happy just the same.

We went out searching for blooming trees. But in the whole city there was only one we could find. Sheltered in a warm courtyard, its top blossoms had just started to open. The air around it smelled like honey. Just a taste of how wonderful the next few weeks will be...

Sweet raindrops are resting on our newly sprouted Columbine, which is one of my favorite springtime flowers because of their pretty scalloped leaves.

When you live in a little house, like we do, you learn to keep only the most important things. And, if new things come in, something must go out. I spend a fair amount of time in the donation line at Good-Will.
With my digital photographs I am different. I have trouble parting with them. And, I want to work on taking less and deleting more. From this idea I am starting "Saving Tuesday". A weekly post of found photographs that I have never looked at, from files that I am deleting. The ones I'll show are the ones I am keeping. Sometimes they will be random, like today. Other weeks they may all come from the same forgotten day. It will be interesting to see what turns up... I hope you'll join me.

* New perfume (just a sample) but I can't stop smelling my wrist.... and now that I've read a bit more I can see that it was probably intended for men. But, that has never stopped me before and I really think it could go either way.

It's finally started, the snow I waited for all last weekend... We are settling in for the night with a nice big pot of soup and wondering if there will be school tomorrow.

Lost and Found

I know I told so many of you that all of my desk calendars were sold out. But, then this morning I found 5 extras of the 2011 Sea Level Calendar tucked away. So they are back in my shop (and discounted too!) But, when these 5 are gone, they really are gone until the 2012 version comes along next fall.

P.S. Thank you so much to all of you who purchased calendars this year. They are one of my favorite projects each year, and it makes me so happy to send them to you each winter.
