Congrats - 3 years - Wow !!!
Party ?
Re.: summer memory -
It was afternoon time hot summer days and I thought of drinking hot tea. The result was amazing. I was feeling better. The conclusion : May be we feel summer heat because of inequality of temperature between the human body and the atmosphere. We have to balance it either by too cold or hot drinks.

it was my last summer of college ... my two best friends (matt and simon) and i played all day, went to work together in the afternoon, and then played some more. it was a summer of sunshine, bbqs, music, starry desert nights, and good conversations.

and it's not even so much the stuff we did ... it's the feelings those memories conjure. i miss them. and will treasure that summer for forever.

One of my favorite things has always been reading in the back yard on summer evenings. I have many a memory of laying on a blanket in the grass or sitting on a porch swing with all my adventurous novels. :)

One of my favorite summer memories was getting into my swimsuit and running through the sprinkler with my brother all day. It was the simple things that made us happy when we were little. :-)

Happy 3rd birthday blog! I just stumbled upon 'bloom, grow, love' recently, and now I eagerly await every post! My favourite summer memory is from the year my mum, dad and I bought my baby brother a superman babygro and just spent an afternoon watching him lying on a rug in the garden, kicking his little legs in the air and learning to smile - cute! :)

Happy blog birthday! I haven't been a reader for three years (I only discovered it recently) but I hope to be here for the next three years :)

My favourite summer memory is when my husband and I spent a week in Salou, Spain, and spend almost the entire time in Port Aventura theme park eating ice cream and riding the biggest rollercoaster over and over. Great times!

Happy anniversary! My favorite summer activity is sitting by the pool with a drink in one hand and a book in the other.

I love your photographs, and I love summer. Especially this time of the year when the cherries just start to get red... My favourtie summer memory would be picking up and eating cherries at my grandma's... Being with her, surrounded by the whole family, eating one of her famous cakes under the shade of the trees in her garden... :)

I have so many wonderful Summer memories - the best would be the Summer I lived in Belgrade. The sunset over the Danube, tulips in Kalemegdan, gelato from the kiosks on the street and cheapseats at the evening ballet. Trying to communicate in broken Serbian and everyone being so patient and friendly. The farmer's market with its narrow passageways between stalls and elbowing babushkas, desperate to get the best strawberries and kajmak. Oh! I'm feeling very nostalgic now.

lissa said...

my favorite summer activity would have to be visiting air-conditioned book stores because we have no air-conditioner

congrats on 3 lovely years of blogging!

my favorite summer memory (at least my favorite at this moment) is of swinging in our backyard while growing up--I'd swing from after supper until it was dark and sing and watch the fireflies come out

congratulations on your blog anniversary!

My favourite summer activity is my parents annual august bbq where the whole family and lots of friends are invited. It rained the entire time last year but it was still great fun. I'm looking forward to the next one now :)

My favorite has got to be learning to swim at the lake near my house. The water was so brown with silt, and I was so scared to let go, but by the end of the summer I was doggy-paddling with the best of them!

I'm looking forward to biking this summer like when I was young!

-Sailing with my dad on the lake.

Happy summer :)

Definitely floating the river on inner tubes with a group of friends a couple years ago. That was the first time I realized what a great guy one of my friends was...and we've been dating ever since!

beautiful shot - I loved it as soon as I saw the dip earlier this morning.

my favorite thing as a child was chasing fireflies in the dusky twilight and playing games with the other children in the neighborhood. these days it's barbequing with family and sitting on the patio sipping summer cocktails while chatting (and laughing).

Sweet Caroline said...

I remember when I was a little girl, whenever summer came around we used to eat dinner outside together. My dad would barbeque and my mom would be wearing these huge sunglasses. And I had my shades too(101 Dalmation style), the front of the frames flipped up in that way only kids can get away with. And my dad would make ceasar salad and put it in a little pink bowl for me. And we'd sit outside together, my parents at the big patio table and me at my respectably smaller one, with my tiny chair. We'd eat burgers and grilled veg and I'd have a glass of juice. That was summer, that's how I remember dinners with my family and being happy all the time just because the sun was out. Summer's just lovely, isn't it?

Napping on a porch swing. It's the thing I miss most about living in the South.

The summer after my first son was born, while he napped under the shade of the tree, I'd read a chapter or two of Watership Down in the sun. It was the last time I think I was completely able to relax. (that was 8 yrs ago!)

i loved going to the pool to swim... we'd pack our lunches and be there all day. we also swam on the swim team so swim meets were always fun competing and goofing off between races. love the summer swimming.

I'm a huge fan of your work! Summer - I have so many things I love to do in the summer. Right now (other than hiking) is heading out on my patio when the kids are asleep, plucking some fresh herbs and making peppermint lemon tea. Then sipping it by myself on the patio. Ahhh...

Yay for summer! I adore your photos and I'm so excited for this giveaway. My best summer memories involve reading for long stretches of time in my grandparents' hammock. After I got nice and toasty in the sun, I'd come in and my grandmother would make me a snack. I'd drink fresh orange juice from the trees in their yard. And when it got cool in the evenings, I'd sit out there and watch my grandfather garden while the kids whizzed down the street on their bright-colored bicycles.

Caroline said...

Playing in the icy brook behind the house in which I grew up. My cousins and I would pretend we were Indians and create an entire village on the banks, including teepees made from lily stems.

PaperdayStudio/Katie Stephenson said...

I can't pick just one but here are a few: 1) Running after the ice-cream man 2) Catching fireflies 3) Riding bikes until just before dark 4) Running through the sprinkler and anything that had to do with water, actually. 5) Sitting in our screen porch at night listening to the frogs and crickets.

Isn't summer just grand?

Oh Thank you! I have am in love with your photography, so this is a wonderful surprise.

My favorite summer memory is sitting in the livingroom with my uncle. He had just come home from college and stayed with us that night. There was a huge thunderstorm that night and I was scared. I got out of bed and he went and grabbed some watermelon from the fridge and we sat and watched the storm (we had floor to ceiling windows in this room) and ate watermelon, while he told me how beautiful the storm was.

i remember that like 6 years ago, we used to go with all of my family for camping to a beach and stayed there for a week or two. i woke up very early (at dawn) in the morning and always found out my dad was awake too and we saw the sunrise together.
it was similar with the rest of my family, but at sunset, after playing cards and eating tuna sandwiches.

As for one of my favorite summer activities, we call it "sunsetting." Me and my three best friends meet at our high school bleachers and watch the sunset together. Now that we're all off at college, I miss it.

one which makes me smile was a roadtrip from kansas to texas. the one night we drove, talk and I watched my friend from my backseat. and listened to stories in three different languages.
we stopped at a gas station to sleep. I didn't. because I didn't want to miss this moment. the moment of happiness.

Summer has always been about music. When I was little, my Dad was in a band and when I visited him on weekends, he took me to his GIGS...some of the best memories of my life. I have tried to re-create that feeling for my girls by hosting a summer concert series on my farm...

A.Mountain.Bride said...

summertime means family reunions in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. every year (ummm...even now and I'm 27) my grandfather would take me and my cousins to the local aquarium to see the paddlefish, and then out to our favorite homemade ice-cream shop by the river. Homemade ice-cream was made for lazy river summer days.

Rachel said...

Oh Yay! I love your work! Hmm... my favorite memory is spending every summer on my Grandma's farm. Getting the eggs from the chicken coup in the morning, slopping the hogs after lunch, feeding the new calves each season... being with her and living on that farm are my favorite memories -ever.

Merci, bises

My favorite summer memory is from when I was a little girl. After dinner I'd be allowed to play outside until the sun started to set. I'd swing on the swing set and watch the sky, hoping that by some miracle the sun wouldn't set on me.

I would say that my fave summer tradition would have to be going for a quick swim with my family before eating a nice late dinner. We used to do it almost every single night when I was young, and I always loved it. :)

I love your photography and your blog. Happy 3rd! My favorite summer memory is houseboating at Lake Powell with my entire family (think reunion). Our annual trips to my great-aunt's house in Vermont: sailing and swimming in the private lake, no locks on the doors, precious time in the hammock, on the screened-in porch reading a book, taking walks on dirt roads...I miss it all! That was the meaning of summer for my siblings and I.

Now that I don't live in Texas where winter is something to sneeze at, summer means Texas too me. It's my home away from home- if a season can be home. It means tanks paired with a-line skirts, flip flops, and a big-big necklace. Showing off my shoulders and feeling pretty (not buried under layers and layers of wool). Being myself.

Ashley said...

Oh! How ironic.. my favorite summer memory was when I was three! (Happy Blog Birthday by the way!) My family was all gathered around swimming, bbq-in and having a grand ole time. My cousins dared me to eat the watermellon seed. I did, being the youngest I had to show how strong and brave I was. My cousins (all boys) died laughing when I finally swallowed. They told me I was going to have a watermellon baby growing in my belly. I still can't swallow the seeds to this day.

mine would have to be cruising the strip in high school through historic downtown Lake Geneva—a hopping summer town on the lake about fifteen minutes from where we lived. my twin sister and i would get all dolled up to impress the guys and go get ice cream at our favorite ice cream shop—Annie's. we'd walk up and down the streets and stop in all the shops after a day at the beach and getting all tan. :) good times.

Amongst all of the wonderful summer memories I have, one of the more simple ones comes to mind. A few years ago for lunch, I came across a small booth somewhere unexpected that had hamburgers and fresh watermelon. There was something about sitting in a park on the grass on a beautiful summer day in my work clothes with fresh watermelon that was a perfect summer moment.

I feel like I've been here from the beginning of your little blog, Happy 3!....my favorite, absolute favorite memory of summer, is driving at twilight in Iowa, the corn just tall enough to run through, the fireflies dancing amongst them and the sweet, thick air.

My best memories of Summer are always just before the night takes over.. that beautiful warm and yellow light that makes you feel happy and warm inside. It always reminds me of when I used to go for a walk with my mother when I was a child, holding her hand and feeling that warm afternoon sun with a mix of a cool breeze announcing that the night is coming...

Congratulations. Would be lovely to win! :)
