I know, I know, I dropped the ball last week on Polaroid week. First we ran out of film and then the most unreal, fantastically good project came my way and everything else is a big blur from there.
In time I will share more (maybe next summer), because it really was one of the best weeks of my life and will keep this girl dreaming big for a long time to come.

Half the Sky

It was probably close to a year ago when I first saw the "Mei, Mei" book at Barnes and Noble while browsing the photography section. And, after learning about the Half the Sky foundation I knew I wanted to help this organization. And, right now you can help too, by placing a bid on some of the items in their annual auction. I have donated my yellow koi photograph which will be sent to the highest bidder directly from me at the end of the auction. (And, I must say wow! thank you to all of those who have bid so far. Day 2- Pumpkin Carving

Only one day in and polaroid week has been taken over by N.J.
Poor girl spent a lot of the day sick on the couch but is now feeling better and is making up for the lost day by helping carve the pumpkin and using up my film.

Day 1- Brown Eyed Susans

Welcome to Polaroid week, a little challenge I am giving myself to document my week with a polaroid (or two a day). I have to keep this a little secretive as I am using my daughter's Barbie Polaroid and if she finds out we have film it will be gone in under 5 minutes. Hopefully, my 20 shots will get me through the week, and I will have something to share with all of you.

I love an occasional photo session to add some excitement to my normal routine, and am always so lucky to meet the nicest people. I got to spend the most gorgeous night with this lovely, soon to be married couple (and their two, too cute dogs). I do hope they like a sun flare, because I am unable to resist.

I think I will be glad when this week is over. I have 4 big projects I am working on, and the two boys of the house haven't been feeling so good.
Because I don't plan on taking many photos this week, I offer you these lovely inspirations from some of the most talented photographers on flickr. Each of them motivates me to be a better photographer and makes me excited for the days I can just play again.

Accessorize

The photos above were taken a few nights ago, on the last of our 80 degree days. It has not settled into more seasonable 50 degree weather. I felt really unprepared as I sat a N.J.'s soccer practice last night shivering. So, today looks like the day we will pull all our winter accessories out of the basement. And, if none of them fit or the mittens have magically lost their partners over the winter I am hitting my favorite Etsy shops.
Last year I got the kids the best little hats from Cite Fuzz, so warm and too cute when they both were wearing them. Right now I am lusting over these mittens for myself. But, I see new colors are coming out so I may make a request for some red ones. And, speaking of autumn accessories, this may be the must have of the season. If you can make that you are my hero. Or, this for a baby girl. I so wish Etsy was around when my bald baby girl was in need of some rockin' pink hair.

Making my week extra special is the fact that Sweet Jan at PoppyTalk has named this the "cool blog of the week". I am so flattered by this, especially since hers is one of my most favorite. Thank you!

Michigan

If you have never been to Michigan, this is what it looks like. Well, to me at least. Miles of woody beaches, with grand dunes. I have spent a lot of time this week working on these nine new photographs which can be found on my website here. I hope they convey my love for this place, especially when decorated in shades of autumn.

Pale

I have been wanting to put together a triptych, and have been searching for the right photos. These three from my weekend seemed to fit just right. I am offering this on my
website and in the Etsy shop.

Apples and pumpkins, pumpkins and apples... they are everywhere these days.

the endless question

I receive several emails each week asking what type of camera I use, and each time I am always a bit surprised. I guess that is because I really don't care that much about cameras, and to me they all do the same job: recording images. I would much rather discuss shoes, or jewelry.
We have at least 10 cameras around here, and I think great art and images I would love forever can be made from any of them.

The only photograph that I have hanging in my house that isn't mine, was taken by an artist who used a camera phone. I loved the photo before I knew about the camera, but then it made me even happier to buy it because it is right in line with my belief that, it doesn't matter.

That said, it is important to find a camera that you feel comfortable using, and DPReview is a great resource filled with people who love to talk cameras, and techniques. Me, I am going to go play with my camera phone.

***The photograph above was taken by my 4 year old. Who when I asked what camera she like using best said, "I really don't want to talk about cameras."
I guess that makes two of us.

October Glow

There's something about this time of year, some days are bits of lingering summer and some remind us of the cold that is to come. The photographs in this set are a tribute to these days when we are caught in between. And the new postcard set can be found in my Etsy shop.
