2 Years

Today I happily celebrate my etsy shop's two year anniversary. I never dreamed my shop would be so good to me. Not only has it helped me spread my photographs out into the world, but it has lead me to some amazing opportunities, and introduced me to some great friends. Thank you to all of you who call my shop a "favorite" (or gave me a "heart" in etsy terms), made a purchase, or left a kind little message for me to find in my etsy mailbox.
Today, each customer will receive a lovely fine art notecard of their choice with their purchase. (Just leave the title of the photograph you'd like on your card in the "notes" section upon checkout.) And, I may even toss in a few extra goodies as well.
Thank you, thank you everyone!

Wishing you snow filled and joyous holidays!

Racheal Ray

I am so thrilled to see the Etsy front page this morning which includes items seen on or inspired by today's Racheal Ray Show.
Right now I am not sure if my "Baby Blue" photograph was actually on the show which featured a segment on Etsy, or in the "inspired" category. I have to wait until it airs here at 4:00 p.m. What torture! I did talk with the shows producers a few weeks ago, so I am not totally surprised by today's front page. But, I am excited that Etsy is getting more widespread attention. I hope any of you who watch the show know there is still time to shop on Etsy for the holidays. I can't speak for all sellers, but I am trying very hard to get all orders shipped on the day they were placed. And, will be shipping right until the last minute with upgrades to Express Mail if requested. (Just in case you're like me and have barely started your holiday shopping!)

Time Flys

So how I feel today. Lots of flying around...

dancin' elves

Blame it on my mother-in-law when you spend way too much time playing with Office Max's Elf-Yourself. (You can see their moves here.) She sent us one of our family, and then my kids wanted to make their own to include Grandma and the cat...and then we had to play it again, and again, and again, and again. Good luck getting that jingly song out of your head :)

so this is Friday...

Things look a lot like this today..many packages awaiting their pick up. And, the rest of the goodies going to the art show with me tomorrow. If you're in the mid-Michigan area, I hope you'll stop by and say hi. I'll be in booth #83, at the Michigan State University union. And, you can get a cape from one of my favorite Etsy sellers there too. Because every kid on your list really needs one. Happy shopping!

these trees

my dreamy winter friends can now be found on my website or etsy shop.

The Ladies

Three new lovely ladies, added to my website.

let it snow, let it snow...

Our first snow...well it snowed the other night here, but we weren't home, so this is our "official" first snow. My little man, walked around the house for hours talking about snow balls, until I finally gave in and got him all bundled up. I think I will like winter a lot more when my kids can dress themselves. :)
My holiday newsletter went out today. (yeah! finally.) I tried a new format, which proved a little troublesome. So, hopefully, you received it. If not, please use the form here to be added. And, I promise you'll be rewarded with a nice little discount code in your inbox.

Friday Night Lights

Bear with me while I get caught up again....and into a more regular posting schedule again. I really don't know where this month has gone.
The photos above make me realize how much I miss walking around the city at night. The lights, the river, stopping into the corner bar for a warm up and a drink with friends, toasty cinnamon almonds. Mmmm, all so good.

Random Happiness

Today I have had random bursts of online happiness. The first came when I saw the showcase I curated on the front page of Trunkt. I would love to have each item in this group. The one thing I do own is the "Insomnia" print from Elista which hangs proudly above the corner of my desk to keep me company while I work late at night. My most favorite item, and most unattainable has to be this. The more luxurious version of the $12 red, vintage bag I carry from my little corner antique store. I can only imagine how beautiful this bag must be, which is funny because up until I had kids I never cared to carry around more than a tiny wallet.

My second bit of fun came through this post on Beach Bungalow8. I spent a good amount of time drooling over every detail of Courtney's home, wanting to move right in. Her colors and style are exactly what I would want in my dream home. And, then to my surprise right in the 18th photo are my "Beach Birds and Umbrellas" and "Surf" photos! Seeing customers photographs framed in their home really makes my day, and especially in a space as gorgeous as this.

Player and Friends

I love horse photographs, but until last weekend I have had very little contact with any actual horses. And, then we met Player, Penny, and their friends, the sweetest horses I could imagine.
Player liked to sneak up on me while I was photographing the others, and silently rest his head on my shoulder. He was always watching me, curious about the camera, or rather why I was holding that thing instead of scratching his nose. His portrait can be found in my shop or on my website.

Poppy Talk Handmade

4 month old cutie, Rugby says go checkout Poppy Talk Handmade the coolest online market of handmade items, starting a fresh month today! (How can you resist that face?)

Trick or Treat

New sweet treats for my shop . Bright and sunny, just like today.
Hope you are all enjoying a happy Friday afternoon!

Creature Comforts-Gift Guide

One of my favorite blogs, Creature Comforts, has just posted their Holiday Gift Guide. Not only were they kind enough to include my photography, but there are so many other great shops offering fabulous specials and coupons. I am especially excited to see this from Show Pony whose adorable bags I have been coveting since discovering them on Etsy this week. Happy Shopping!

I know, I know, I dropped the ball last week on Polaroid week. First we ran out of film and then the most unreal, fantastically good project came my way and everything else is a big blur from there.
In time I will share more (maybe next summer), because it really was one of the best weeks of my life and will keep this girl dreaming big for a long time to come.

***You may have noticed my new Etsy mini near the bottom right. It will be a rotating collection of my favorite Etsy finds to showcase some of the wonderful sellers I have discovered lately. I can't wait to start my holiday shopping. Speaking of which have you taken the pledge yet?

Day 4- Goodnight

The day flew by and I forgot about my polaroid promise until now...sweet dreams.

Day 3- Front Porch

Stepping out to a gray, rainy morning...

Half the Sky

It was probably close to a year ago when I first saw the "Mei, Mei" book at Barnes and Noble while browsing the photography section. And, after learning about the Half the Sky foundation I knew I wanted to help this organization. And, right now you can help too, by placing a bid on some of the items in their annual auction. I have donated my yellow koi photograph which will be sent to the highest bidder directly from me at the end of the auction. (And, I must say wow! thank you to all of those who have bid so far. You have really exceeded my expectations. ) If you miss the auction, don't worry you can always donate anytime right here.

Day 2- Pumpkin Carving

Only one day in and polaroid week has been taken over by N.J.
Poor girl spent a lot of the day sick on the couch but is now feeling better and is making up for the lost day by helping carve the pumpkin and using up my film.

the date

This image has been in my head since the night we went to the fair in July. It is nice to finally see it through and be able to offer it in my shops here and here.

Day 1- Brown Eyed Susans

Welcome to Polaroid week, a little challenge I am giving myself to document my week with a polaroid (or two a day). I have to keep this a little secretive as I am using my daughter's Barbie Polaroid and if she finds out we have film it will be gone in under 5 minutes. Hopefully, my 20 shots will get me through the week, and I will have something to share with all of you.

I love an occasional photo session to add some excitement to my normal routine, and am always so lucky to meet the nicest people. I got to spend the most gorgeous night with this lovely, soon to be married couple (and their two, too cute dogs). I do hope they like a sun flare, because I am unable to resist.

I think I will be glad when this week is over. I have 4 big projects I am working on, and the two boys of the house haven't been feeling so good.
Because I don't plan on taking many photos this week, I offer you these lovely inspirations from some of the most talented photographers on flickr. Each of them motivates me to be a better photographer and makes me excited for the days I can just play again.
(One small project I hope to finish in the next few weeks is my holiday newsletter, so if you'd like to be on the mailing list. Please send me a note here.)

The photos above were taken a few nights ago, on the last of our 80 degree days. It has not settled into more seasonable 50 degree weather. I felt really unprepared as I sat a N.J.'s soccer practice last night shivering. So, today looks like the day we will pull all our winter accessories out of the basement. And, if none of them fit or the mittens have magically lost their partners over the winter I am hitting my favorite Etsy shops.
Last year I got the kids the best little hats from Cite Fuzz, so warm and too cute when they both were wearing them. Right now I am lusting over these mittens for myself. But, I see new colors are coming out so I may make a request for some red ones. And, speaking of autumn accessories, this may be the must have of the season. If you can make that you are my hero. Or, this for a baby girl. I so wish Etsy was around when my bald baby girl was in need of some rockin' pink hair.

Making my week extra special is the fact that Sweet Jan at PoppyTalk has named this the "cool blog of the week". I am so flattered by this, especially since hers is one of my most favorite. Thank you!

I hope you all have a great weekend, we have lots of plans including the start of week 2 of our bathroom remodel. The 30 year old wall paper has come down and it is time to paint! Cheers!

***For my international friends, I have now added, Canada, the UK, and Australia shipping to my website, with free shipping on gift certificates.

If you have never been to Michigan, this is what it looks like. Well, to me at least. Miles of woody beaches, with grand dunes. I have spent a lot of time this week working on these nine new photographs which can be found on my website here. I hope they convey my love for this place, especially when decorated in shades of autumn.

I have been wanting to put together a triptych, and have been searching for the right photos. These three from my weekend seemed to fit just right. I am offering this on my
website and in the Etsy shop.

Apples and pumpkins, pumpkins and apples... they are everywhere these days.

the endless question

I receive several emails each week asking what type of camera I use, and each time I am always a bit surprised. I guess that is because I really don't care that much about cameras, and to me they all do the same job: recording images. I would much rather discuss shoes, or jewelry.
We have at least 10 cameras around here, and I think great art and images I would love forever can be made from any of them.

The only photograph that I have hanging in my house that isn't mine, was taken by an artist who used a camera phone. I loved the photo before I knew about the camera, but then it made me even happier to buy it because it is right in line with my belief that, it doesn't matter.

That said, it is important to find a camera that you feel comfortable using, and DPReview is a great resource filled with people who love to talk cameras, and techniques. Me, I am going to go play with my camera phone.

***The photograph above was taken by my 4 year old. Who when I asked what camera she like using best said, "I really don't want to talk about cameras."
I guess that makes two of us.

October Glow

There's something about this time of year, some days are bits of lingering summer and some remind us of the cold that is to come. The photographs in this set are a tribute to these days when we are caught in between. And the new postcard set can be found in my Etsy shop.

Now this I love! My website is finally pretty again thanks to the talented Suzanne, who came to my rescue. Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a great way to start the week.

Have you visited modishoppe lately?
Several of my photographs are now for sale there, as well as many other lovelies, like

After Midnight

Staying up to late, dancing and eating... this is our week. Our favorite Floridians are here visiting, we wouldn't expect anything less.
